RUSTON - Louisiana Tech will take a break from Western Athletic Conference play Wednesday to host Stephen F. Austin in a non-conference softball game at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
The Lady Techsters are coming off a weekend series that saw them defeat BYU (30-13) in the middle game of a three-game series. It was LA Tech's first ever win over BYU, which is ranked in the Top 35 in the country in the most recent RPI released by the NCAA.
Tech is 19-25 overall on the season, 6-8 in WAC play and only one-half game out of fifth place in the highly-competitive Western Athletic Conference that boasts five teams in the Top 100 in the RPI.
Offensively, Melanie Goff continues to lead the Lady Techsters boasting a .388 batting average with 10 doubles, 16 runs and 16 RBI. Janna Frandrup (.324, 26 RBI, 35 walks), Amanda Krueger (.263, 11 doubles, 34 runs) and Erin Kipp (.260, 2 HR, 16 RBI) are also providing production in the lineup.
In the circle, Michelle Jones (12-11, 2.88 ERA), Frandrup (2-4, 1.51 ERA), Erin Kipp (5-6, 5.16 ERA) or Goff (0-4, 5.92 ERA) could get the start against SFA.
Stephen F. Austin (13-30, 4-12 Southland) has struggled offensively this season, batting only .197 as a team while scoring only 104 runs in 43 games. Elizabeth Arana (.286, nine doubles, 17 RBI), Cadie Weaver (.261, 17 RBI), Bethany Brown (.229, 22 runs, 12-13 SB) lead the Ladyjacks offensively.
Carlie Thomas (8-12, 3.64 ERA), Angela White (5-14, 3.83 ERA) or Kaitlyn Mixon (0-4, 6.37 ERA) could get the start in the circle for SFA.
Louisiana Tech leads the all-time series against SFA 39-19, including a 6-5 win on Feb. 29 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
