April 9, 2012

Listen Live

NATCHITOCHES, La. - Fresh off its three-game sweep over New Mexico State this past weekend, Louisiana Tech will travel to play Northwestern State Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Lady Demon Diamond Complex.

Tech (18-19, 5-3 WAC) is looking for its fourth straight win, which would mark the longest winning streak since the 2010 season for the Lady Techsters. Northwestern State (15-23, 4-8 SLC) is also coming off a weekend conference sweep, having defeated Stephen F. Austin in a two-game series.

The Lady Techsters received solid pitching against a usually high-powered New Mexico State team, allowing only one earned run in 21.0 innings while holding the Aggies to a .143 team batting average. Michelle Jones, named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday, continues to lead Tech's staff with an 11-9 record and a 2.38 earned run average.

Offensively, Melanie Goff (.388, 1 HR, 15 RBI), Janna Frandrup (.368, 2 HR, 25 RBI), Erin Kipp (.317, 2 HR, 15 RBI) continue to pace the Lady Techsters while Amanda Krueger (.257, 32 runs, 10 doubles), Katelynn Hill (.253, 5 HR, 15 RBI), Kendra Harmon (.240, 6 RBI), Alayna Kipp (.216, 4 HR, 13 RBI), Dacia Hale (5 HR, 14 RBI) and Meghan Knowles (3 HR, 13 RBI) have also contributed to Tech's success.

Northwestern State did not allow a run in the series sweep of Stephen F. Austin as the Demons received a pair of one-hit performances from Kylie Roos (5-10, 3.76) and Brooke Boening (4-4, 3.93) in the wins. Kelee Grimes (6-8, 3.73 ERA) could also see action against LA Tech.

Cali Burke (.369, 15 RBI), Tara McKenney (.363, 11 RBI), and Brianna Rodriguez (.309, 3 HR, 14 RBI) have been NSU's most consistent hitters while Samantha Roberts (.284, 7 HR, 21 RBI) and Cassandra Barefield (.280, 5 HR, 20 RBI) have been the most consistent run-producers.

Tech leads the all-time series against Northwestern State 49-39, including a 7-5 win over the Demons on Feb. 17 at the UL-Lafayette Mardi Gras Classic.
