Aug. 20, 2012

RUSTON - With Louisiana Tech's soccer season opener canceled due to inclement weather this past Saturday, the Lady Techsters will attempt a do over tomorrow as they host LSU-Shreveport.

This marked the first time since Aug. 28, 2009 versus Grambling State that a game was not played due to Mother Nature.

With the contest not being able to be made up, Tech has scheduled a replacement game on Aug. 29 at Louisiana College in Pineville, La. at 7 p.m.

Tech will practice tonight before facing off tomorrow against the Lady Pilots at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex at 5 p.m. in what will only be the second ever meeting between the I-20 schools.

"As was the case with our original opener that was rained out, we're hoping our large group of freshmen will incorporate what we've taught them in practice to the game itself in helping them gain experience on the field," said Sherry.

The lone matchup came last season as the Lady Techsters ran away with the victory 7-0 on a sweltering August afternoon in Shreveport.

Six different players scored for LA Tech that evening, led by now junior Emily Brennan with two goals. The scoring started with now senior Mo Rockwell early in the 19th minute on a centering pass from former Lady Techster Scotti Culton.

Head coach Mike Aguilar and his Lady Pilots ended up finishing the 2011 season with a 7-8-2 record and a 4th place finish in the Red River Athletics Conference which is an affiliate of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

LA Tech's Kevin Sherry has experience coaching at the NAIA level as he spent his first four years as a head women's soccer coach at Graceland University. He led the school to their first-ever conference championship with an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the NAIA Final Four.

The Lady Techsters will continue action at home on Friday at 11 a.m. versus future CUSA mate Southern Miss.

Admission to every Lady Techster soccer match is free.
