Box Score

Feb. 27, 2013

Final Stats

RUSTON, La. - The Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin (2-4) homered their way past Louisiana Tech (2-6) to win, 10-5, Wednesday afternoon at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches, Texas.

The Lumberjacks scored in six of eight innings in the win, while the Stephen F. Austin hitters recorded 14 hits on the afternoon, including three home runs. The SFA pitching staff held the Bulldogs to seven hits and five runs in the midweek victory.

"Their guy pitched well today, kept us off balance and they had some timely hits," head coach Wade Simoneaux. "We have to stay together and get through these rough times now and get over them. Last year, we went through these rough times in conference, so if we can get these out of the way now, we can get back to winning at McNeese Friday."

Right hander Kevin Bishop (1-0) pitched seven complete innings to earn his first victory of the season. Bishop held the Bulldogs to three runs - two earned - off five hits to lead the Lumberjacks on the day. Bishop also struck out five Tech batters and walked one in the win.

Junior right hander Omar Ugarte (1-1) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs - four earned - off six hits, while striking out five batters in 3.2 innings pitched. Ugarte was relieved by left hander James Ferguson in the fourth inning.

The Bulldogs used six pitchers in the loss with Trevor Petersen, Caleb Dudley, Laetten Galbraith and Dakota Doss each took the mound for Tech on the day in relief of Ugarte and Ferguson.

Stephen F. Austin plated four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning after a pair of two-run home runs by second baseman Freddy Villalobos and first baseman Jordon Lenaburg. Lenaburg added his second two-run homer of the game in the bottom half of the sixth to give Stephen F. Austin a six-run advantage over Tech heading into the seventh inning.

Left fielder Sam Alvis led the Bulldogs with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with two doubles and a run scored in his first start as a position player this season. Kody Neel added a pinch hit two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to record the first homer of the season for himself and the Bulldogs as a team.

Tech returns to the diamond at 6:30 p.m. Friday to kick off a three-game set against the McNeese State Cowboys at Cowboy Diamond in Lake Charles, La.
