Final Stats

RUSTON, La. - Senior Trevor Petersen pitched eight innings, while allowing two runs as Louisiana Tech defeated Stephen F. Austin, 7-3, to tie the series at one apiece Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.

Stephen F. Austin (9-9) led 2-0 after scoring a run in both the third and fourth innings before Tech (6-14) tied it up on back-to-back doubles to left field by Jacob Derouen and Bre'shon Kimbell and a sacrifice fly by Taylor Burch.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning after a fielder's choice score one followed by a two-RBI single by Austin Hedges to put three on the board and give Tech a 5-2 advantage. Tech added two more runs in the eighth off an error and a fielder's choice to complete the 7-3 victory.

Petersen (2-2) earned the win on the mound after pitching eight innings and allowing two runs - one earned - off six hits. Jamie Gilley came on in relief of Dakota Doss in the ninth inning with no outs and bases loaded and earned his first save of the season after striking out two.

Right hander Kyle Cross (2-2) was charged with the loss after giving up three runs - all earned - off seven hits in five innings pitched. Cross was relieved by Cass Ingvardsen, Garrett Powell and Cody Priest, all of whom saw action in the sixth inning. Blake Rhodes closed out the game for the Lumberjacks after pitching 0.2 innings in the eighth.

The Bulldogs were led by Derouen, who put together a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with two runs scored. Hedges also recorded two hits in four at bats while driving in two runs on the day, while Kody Neel was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Burch was 1-for-3 in the victory with two RBI and two runs.

The series will conclude at 1 p.m. tomorrow as right hander Richie Navari is set to get the start for the Bulldogs on the mound. Navari (0-3) has struck out 16 batters he has faced in 17.2 innings pitched thus far this season. Right hander Cameron Gann is scheduled to start for Stephen F. Austin Sunday.
