Final Stats

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Bulldogs defeated Northwestern State, 7-2, to take the season series Tuesday night at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.

In the first inning, LA Tech (19-34) batted around and scored four runs off three hits for a four-run advantage early on in the game. Tech scored seven runs off nine hits as freshman starter Adam Derouen held off Northwestern State (15-38) hitters, while allowing one run on the night.

"I finally felt comfortable on the mound tonight," Derouen said of the win. "In my first few starts, I was a still a little nervous, but tonight I felt a lot more comfortable. I tried to make contact to get a lot of ground balls and the defense stepped up and did their job to get the win."

Adam Derouen (2-1) started for the Bulldogs and earned his second win of the season after giving up just one run off seven hits in 5.2 innings of work. The outing was Derouen's longest outing of the season as the freshman faced 24 batters on the night before Ben Carlisle came on in relief in the sixth and pitched 1.1 innings of no-hit baseball. Dakota Doss and Sam Alvis each pitched one inning apiece to close out the win in the eighth and ninth innings.

Freshman right hander Dillon Crain (0-2) was charged with the loss after starting the game for the Demons and not recording an out in the first inning. Crain gave up four runs off three hits while walking three of the six batters he faced.

Zach Krebs, A.J. Funk and Andrew Adams pitched five innings of one-hit baseball while not allowing a run after relieving Crain in the first. In the seventh, Joey Parrack allowed three runs off two hits while striking out three in 1.2 innings of work. Cameron Brewer and Steven Spann pitched 1.1 innings and gave up a combined three hits in the loss.

After taking an early 4-0 lead in the first, Tech added three additional runs in the seventh when Neel scored on a wild pitch, followed by an RBI single by Kyle Arnsberg and a double down the left field line by Thomas Simoneaux to plate Colby Johnson and give the Bulldogs a 7-2 lead over the Demons.

Northwestern State scored a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings to get on the board in the second game of this two-game season series. Cort Brinson knocked home the first run for the Demons on an RBI double down the right field line. In the eighth, Matt Baca singled to center with two outs to plate the second and final run of the night for the Demons.

For the Bulldogs, Thomas Simoneaux was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI after coming on as a defensive substitution in the fifth inning. Seniors Corey White and Austin Hedges each recorded two hits and scored a run on the night, while Kody Neel was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Northwestern State second baseman Edwin Gomez led the Demons with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate, while Brinson and Baca each tallied a hit while knocking in a run for the visitors.

Tech will return to action to face UTSA in the final three-game series of the season beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.
