@LATechBOWL Places 10th at Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Lady Techsters had three bowlers finish in the top 50, as Louisiana Tech placed 10th this weekend at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational, which was hosted by Tulane in New Orleans.

LA Tech went 4-8 in the win-loss column over the course of the three day invitational as the Lady Techsters faced off against four teams ranked in the preseason Top 20, including the defending national champions, Sam Houston State, who went on to win the tournament this weekend with an 11-1 record.

Of the 13 teams competing in New Orleans, Louisiana Tech beat out Jackson State, Florida A&M and Southern University to finish the weekend in 10th place overall.

Sophomore Harley DeKeyzer led the way for the Lady Techsters with a 38th place finish in the individual competitions with a total score of 911 and an average of 182.2 in five games. LA Tech's Shelby Smith and Amelia Fasting also rounded out the top 50 in a field of nearly 100 bowlers. Smith bowled an average of 172.6 in five games, while Fasting averaged 171.0 in two games on Sunday.

The Lady Techsters return to action on Oct. 31 as the team travels to compete in the Texas Southern Thrashing Tiger Invitational in Houston, Texas.
