RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech had two bowlers finish in the top 50, including a top 10 finish by Harley DeKeyzer, as the Lady Techsters placed 11th this weekend at the Tulane Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational in Kenner, Louisiana.
LA Tech went 4-10 in the win-loss column over the course of the three-day invitational as the Lady Techsters faced off against nine teams ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason Top 25, including Sam Houston State, a team that closed out the season-opening tournament in first place with a 10-4 record.
Of the 15 teams competing at AMF All Star Lanes, Louisiana Tech beat out Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Alabama State and Southern to finish the weekend in 11th place overall with a total of 12,675 pins knocked down and an average of 169.0 per game.
Junior Harley DeKeyzer led the way for the Lady Techsters with a ninth place finish in the individual competitions with a total pinfall of 1,227 and an average of 204.5 in six games. LA Tech's Kelsey Calzaretta also cracked the top 50 in a field of nearly 100 bowlers. Calzaretta bowled an average of 173.83 in six games to finish 50th individually.
The Lady Techsters return to action Friday, Oct. 23 as the team travels to compete in the Hornet Classic in Montgomery, Alabama.
