RUSTON - After a slow start, Louisiana Tech scored eight runs in three innings to down Grambling State 8-0 in six innings in non-conference midweek action at the Lady Techster Softball Complex on Wednesday.
Tech (7-5) pounded out 12 hits against a pair of Grambling State (0-9) pitchers as 10 different Lady Techsters recorded at least one hit while six registered RBI.
After Tech starter Bianca Duran (4-5) and Grambling State starter Niolette Wunderly threw three scoreless innings to start the game, the Lady Techster bats finally came to life in the bottom of the fourth.
A Grambling State error opened up the flood gates as three of Tech's four runs in the inning were unearned. Kassie Harris reached on a fielding error and Krysta Tutsch followed with a single and both players scored on Duran's two-run triple to centerfield, giving LA Tech a 2-0 lead. Janine Godwin then plated Duran from third on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
Katie Smith doubled with two outs and scored on Karlee Jensen's single to left field as Tech led 4-0 through four innings.
Tech added a solo run in the fifth. Tori Charters singled and stole second base and then scored on another fielding error by GSU on a Natalie Moran ground ball to shortstop. Tech led 5-0.
Duran cruised through three innings in the circle, allowing only three hits and one walk while striking out five in 5.0 innings of work. She was relieved by Pauline Tufi in the sixth who promptly retired GSU without any damage.
Tech then added three runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth. Amanda Gray singled to right field and scored on Taylor Brintzenhoff's Texas leaguer double to left center. Kristen Miles then singled up the middle, scoring Brintzenhoff as Tech led 7-0. Tufi walked and then both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Lindsey Neyland doubled to left center, scoring Miles with the game-ending run.
Offensively, Tech was led by Duran (2-3, 1 run, 2 RBI), Miles (2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), Anna Cross (1-3), Brintzenhoff (1-1, 1 run, 1 RBI), Charters (1-1, 1 run), Casey Ingram (1 run), Neyland (1-1, 1 RBI), Tutsch (1-1, 1 run), Godwin (1 RBI), Smith (1-2, 1 run), Gray (1-1, 1 run), and Jensen (1-2, 1 RBI).
The Lady Techsters are scheduled to host a three-day tournament Friday through Sunday but the schedule is still undecided due to the impending weather forecast. Stay tuned to LATechSports.com for more information on this weekend's games.
