LA Tech Posts 13th Place Finish at Track Kat Klash

Nov. 7, 2016

RUSTON, La. - On Sunday afternoon at the Kat Klash Invitational in Houston, Texas, the Lady Techsters wrapped up their first weekend of play with a 13th place finish where LA Tech averaged 170.9 as a team.

On Sunday, bracket play, contested in the best-of-seven- baker format, opened with 13th seeded LA Tech, falling to Lincoln Memorial 4-3, but the Lady Techsters would rally to beat Bethune-Cookman in a tiebreaker round and then move on to defeat Lincoln Memorial 4-1 to finish the tournament with a 13th place finish.

"I thought we came out today a little more aggressive than we had been the first two days," head coach Matt Nantais said. "After we had a lead in the first game, they did not put them away like they should have, giving them an opportunity in which they came back to beat us. The next two matches both went the distance and when they needed to, [the team] stepped up and finished off matches, giving us victories in the final two. There are a few things that we are going to work on this week before we leave for Jackson, Mississippi. The overall attitude of the team was never give up. We have a long season and a lot of work to be done. At different times this weekend, each athlete stepped up at one time or another and carried the team. Shelby Smith stepped up a few times and struck out for us to win matches which was pretty big."

On Friday afternoon, Louisiana Tech opened with six baker matches, with LA Tech posting a win over Grambling State, but unfortunately, the Lady Techsters would fall to Delaware State, Central Missouri, Jackson State, Youngstown State and Texas Southern.

Saturday's slate featured five traditional matches in which LA Tech posted wins over Bethune-Cookman and Lincoln Memorial. Louisiana Tech would come up short in their other three matches against Nebraska, who ranks first in the nation, and Southern.

LA Tech will be back in action this weekend at the Jackson State Invitational.
