NEW ORLEANS - Louisiana Tech needed just seven innings to move to 2-0 on the season Saturday as the Bulldogs run-ruled Southern, 15-0, in the second game of the MLB Urban Invitational at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans.

The Bulldogs slugged their way to 15 runs on 14 hits while earning 10 walks on the afternoon, while LA Tech's defense played its second game of the weekend without committing an error. Greg Goff gave 18 different position players a chance to see the field in the game, but it was Brent Diaz that stood out and was named the Darryl Hamilton Player of the Game after going 3-for-3 with two doubles, both in the same inning, with a pair of RBI's and a run scored.

For the second day in a row, LA Tech's pitching staff was dominant in a combined shutout effort on the mound, led by starter Phillip Diehl, who earned the win on the mound. Diehl (1-0) made his first appearance since March 1, 2015 and tossed four innings of three-hit baseball while striking out eight of the 16 batters he faced. Adam Derouen, Casey Sutton and Cameron Linck each threw one inning apiece while giving up two hits to close out the final three frames.

With last night's 7-0 victory over Prairie View, today's shutout win versus the Jaguars marks the first time a Louisiana Tech team has shut out consecutive opponents since the 1997 season.

"I thought our guys made some adjustments in the middle innings and really started to have a good approach at the plate," Goff said. "Any time you score seven runs with two outs, you are doing something right. I thought our hitters locked in there to extend the lead later in the game. Our pitchers have done a tremendous job of pounding the zone and pitching to contact. We have made some really nice plays defensively. I just feel so much positive energy coming out of our dugout right now. These have just been really good team wins this weekend overall."

With a 2-0 lead after three innings of play, Louisiana Tech started a two-out rally in the fourth that resulted in a total of 11 batters that came to the plate and seven runs scored on six hits. The inning included two doubles by Diaz, one at the beginning and another toward the end, two sacrifice fly balls, a bunt single and back-to-back doubles by Cody Daigle and Taylor Love to give Tech a 9-0 lead after four innings.

Southern issued two bases-loaded walks in the fifth, while Jonathan Washam hit an RBI single up the middle to plate the third run of the inning for a 12-0 advantage for the Bulldogs. Jonathan Washam came through once again in the sixth for two more runs with a two-RBI double to left field to make it 14-0. LA Tech plated its 15th and final run of the game in the top half of the seventh when Brennan Grant led off with an infield single and later came around to score on an RBI ground ball by Jeremy Spring.

In addition to Diaz's day at the plate, Daigle had two RBI's in the game, while Jonathan and Jordan Washam combined for three hits and five RBI's. Marshall Boggs reached base four times with a double, RBI and three walks.

Louisiana Tech wraps up the weekend at 1 p.m. Sunday when the Bulldogs take on New Orleans at Maestri Field in the third and final game of the MLB Urban Invitational.
