RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech scored in the first five innings and jumped on the Tigers early on its way to a 10-2 victory over Grambling State Tuesday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.

The victory marks the 23rd straight meeting LA Tech has defeated Grambling (10-14) on the diamond. With the win, LA Tech improved to 14-7 overall on the season which is the program's best start since the 1989 season.

"I felt like today's success started in batting practice," head coach Greg Goff said. "Our guys had a great demeanor, their swings were really good in pregame BP and I thought that really translated over to the game for the first time. We finally executed offensively and that is what it takes. Tonight is the first time we kind of took it to a different level, so hopefully we can maintain that and be ready for tomorrow."

LA Tech starter Jorge Flores (1-0) picked up his first win as a Bulldog after allowing one run on three hits in four innings on the mound. Following Flores' outing, Goff sent seven different pitchers to the mound as the Bulldog bullpen held Grambling to just one more run the rest of the way.

"In his first start in his career here, I thought Jorge pitched really well," he said. "Then, we were just mixing it up with a lot of different guys in the bullpen. We have been telling them that as these midweek games come along, they better be ready to go, so tonight I thought just about everybody pitched really well for us."

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, the Bulldogs delivered the big blow in the second by putting up four runs thanks to four hits, one of which was a two-run double by Raphael Gladu to give LA Tech a 5-0 lead after two innings of play.

Grambling State scored one in the top half of the third, but Louisiana Tech came right back in the bottom of the inning to plate three runs thanks to an RBI base hit by Brent Diaz, a sacrifice fly by Chandler Hall and two Grambling errors.

LA Tech tacked on two more runs in the game, starting in the fourth with Chase Lunceford's solo home run that reached the pine trees in right field. In the fifth, Jordan Washam led off with a ground-rule double then later scored on an RBI single by Hall to make it a 10-1 lead for the Bulldogs.

The Tigers scored one more run in the eighth, but LA Tech was able to close out the victory by holding Grambling scoreless in the final frame.

Hall drove in a team-high three runs for the Bulldogs in a 1-for-3 night at the plate, while both Diaz and Gladu had two RBI's each in the victory. Gladu was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI's, while Diaz went 1-for-2 with two RBI's and a run scored for LA Tech. Lunceford and Cody Daigle also had one RBI apiece. As a team, LA Tech out-hit Grambling with 10 to four.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to host McNeese State at 6 p.m. Wednesday in another midweek matchup at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.
