May 11, 2016 DENTON, Texas - While Louisiana Tech is just hours from their first pitch at the Conference USA Tournament in Denton, Texas, several Lady Techsters woke up to good news this morning as the C-USA All-Conference teams, as voted on by league coaches, were announced by the league office this morning.
Louisiana Tech will take the field at 5 p.m. this afternoon for their first game of the C-USA Tournament, facing either Marshall or UTSA. The game will broadcast on ESPN 97.7 as the fourth seeded Lady Techsters are in a win or go home situation.
Bailey Allen headlined the announcement, bringing home first-team all-conference honors. Allen was the leader for the Lady Techsters throughout the 2016 season. The sophomore totaled over 144 innings this season, compiling a 15-8 record and an ERA of 2.33.
Allen is in good company, as the Pineville native is joined by two hurlers, Kylee Hanson and Amanda Wilson, from the nationally-ranked Florida Atlantic Owls.
Allen was the lone Lady Techster to receive first team honors, but she wasn't the only Lady Techster to bring home hardware.
Anna Cross, Morgan Turkoly and Krysta Tutsch all picked up second team all-conference honors. Cross leads Louisiana Tech with 46 runs, 40 RBI, 13 home runs, a .656 slugging percentage, nine doubles, 32 walks and 103 total bases.
Turkoly, just a freshman, took Conference USA by storm this season and was not only named second team all-conference, but to the all-freshman team as well. Turkoly has already set the Louisiana Tech freshman record for home runs in a season with nine, runs in a season with 39, total bases in a season with 88, RBI in a season with 38, walks in a season with 26 and a slugging percentage of .564.
Tutsch, the powerful hitting Techster catcher, blasted seven home runs this season, while driving in 23 runs. Tutsch has thrown out base runners at nearly a 50 percent clip, as she has gained the reputation of being one of the top defensive and powerful catchers in Conference USA.
Two other Lady Techsters were named to the all-freshman team, in Taria Page and Preslee Gallaway.
Page was as productive as they come in making her hits count. The Anchorage, Alaska native drove in 30 runs on just 21 hits this season.
Gallaway was a consistent second starter for the Lady Techsters starting in 12 games and tossing four complete games. Gallaway ranks top-10 nationally with five saves. She posted an 8-2 record this season with an ERA of 3.36.
Gallaway was named Conference USA player of the Week back in February after tossing 18 scoreless innings at the LA Tech Invitational.
