LA Tech Finishes Fourth at Hornet Classic

Nov. 20, 2017

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Louisiana Tech women's bowling team registered a fourth-place finish, while freshman Kaitlyn Eder was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Hornet Classic, hosted by Alabama State this past weekend.

Eder wrapped up the weekend with the third-highest pin total at 203.8 and was just one of three bowlers to record an average of 200 or better throughout the weekend's action. Eder has now been named to three-straight all-tournament teams.

After the first day of the tournament, Tech found itself in second place, despite a 2-3 record. The Lady Techsters racked up the second-most pins (4602), trailing UAB for first place heading into Saturday's action.

Day two saw the Lady Techsters register a 3-1 record and average 183.8 pins on the day. Tech would enter Sunday's bracket play in third place, with a chance at capturing a second straight tournament title.

However, missed opportunities doomed Tech in its quest for another championship crown. With a 3-1 lead in Sunday's first-round matchup against host Alabama State, Tech was unable to hold of the Hornets, as they raced to three straight victories and claiming the best-of-seven series, 4-3.

The Techsters would rebound in their second matchup of the day, staking a 4-2 win over Florida A&M and advancing to the third-place game in a rematch against Alabama State.

However, the Hornets staked control of the matchup early on and rolled to a 4-0 triumph.

Tech's fourth-place finish marks the third time this season that the team has finished in the top-five in tournament action.

The Techsters will take the rest of 2017 to train and prepare for their next action at the Mid-Winter Invitational in Jonesboro, Arkansas, beginning on January 12, 2018.
