Tech Knocks off Six Ranked Opponents at TRACK Kat Klash

Nov. 5, 2017

HOUSTON -- Following up on a highly successful season-opening tournament, the Louisiana Tech women's bowling team maintained its momentum and earned a ninth-place finish at this weekend's TRACK Kat Klash, hosted by Sam Houston State.

Tech knocked off six ranked opponents throughout the weekend's action, and finished the tournament with a team average of 184.8.

"I think this weekend was a defining moment for our team," head coach Matt Nantais noted. "We still have some improvements to make, but we never gave up all weekend. They continually supported and encouraged each other all weekend, which is something a successful team does."

Leading the way for Tech was newcomer Kaitlyn Eder. The freshman impressed against some of the stiffest competition in the nation and earned all-tournament accolades after finishing with the fourth-highest average (212.80) among 158 individuals.

"Even though it is early in the season, we are showing a ton of potential," Nantais added. "We finished in the top-10 of a really tough field. Kaitlyn Eder earning all-tournament honors was a bonus for us this weekend."

The Lady Techsters began the weekend with five baker matches on Friday. The team knocked off a pair of ranked opponents in No. 18 North Carolina A&T and No. 24 Youngstown State, but fell to No. 10 Central Missouri, Maryville and Alabama State.

After day one, Tech found itself with some work to do, in 18th place out of the 21-team field.

In Saturday's traditional matches, the Techsters rallied for wins over Jackson State, Southern and defeated No. 3 Arkansas State in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament. Tech wrapped up day two with a nail-biting loss to No. 2 Nebraska (1,029-1,010).

Heading into Sunday's bracket action, Tech improved seven spots to the 11th seed, with the potential to finish the tournament as high as ninth place.

Which is exactly what they did.

In one of the more clutch performances by any team this season, Tech took care of three more ranked foes in No. 19 UAB (4-3), No. 10 Central Missouri (4-1) and No. 17 Tulane (4-0) for a ninth-place finish.

The Lady Techsters will return to action next weekend, starting the Jackson State Sonic Boom Invitational on Friday, Nov. 10.
