RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech men's and women's cross country squads will hit the road this weekend for their final regular-season meet of the campaign with the two teams traveling to Clinton, Mississippi, on Saturday to compete in the Mississippi College Invitational.
Â
This Saturday's meet will be held at Choctaw Trails in Clinton and will feature a men's 8k race, followed by the women's 5k event. The Bulldogs will get things started on Saturday morning with the 8k scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. before Louisiana Tech's women race in the 5k event, which is set to get underway at 9 a.m. that morning.
Â
Choctaw Trails is one of the premier true cross country courses in the nation. It is host to the high school state championships, as well as several college conference championships, and regional championships each year. It has rolling grass hills, a few wooded trails, and great spectator areas.
Â
LA Tech's men return to action for the first time since Sept. 22 when the Bulldogs competed at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station. In that event, the Bulldogs averaged a time of 25:46.52 in the men's 8k race and totaled a team score of 170 to place fifth in the event. LA Tech was led by
Austin Ballow who posted a time of 25:18.65 to finish in 21st place. Ballow was followed by
Mason Youberg, who finished 30th with a time of 25:36.40, and
Conner Killian, who placed 32nd overall after he finished with a time of 25:40.10.
Â
Louisiana Tech's Lady Techsters competed just last weekend at the Lois Davis Invitational, where the team finished third as a team with a time of 1:50:37, while all five scorers finish in the top 25 in Magnolia, Arkansas. In that event, LA Tech was led by freshman
Riley Killian, who recorded a fourth place finish with a time of 20:27.1 and an average time of 6:34.5 per mile in the women's 5k race. Killian has led the Lady Techsters in every event this season.
Elia Nero also placed inside the top 10 after the veteran finished seventh.
