Lady Techsters Conclude Action at Southland Championship

March 24, 2018

JONESBORO, Ark. - The No. 20 Louisiana Tech bowling team wrapped up its 2017-18 campaign over the weekend at the 2018 Southland Bowling League Championship.

Tech opened the tournament as the number seven seed matched up in a tough first-round matchup against the number-two seed Vanderbilt. The Lady Techsters battled but dropped the first traditional match, 1,024-908, before falling in the baker format, 1,130-976.

With the loss, Tech moved into the elimination bracket, but showed some resolve in a matchup Valparaiso - the tournament's overall number six seed. Tech knocked off the Crusaders in both the traditional (856-774) and the baker formats (927-875) to stay alive for another day.

Freshman Kaitlyn Eder paced the Lady Techsters in the traditional win, bowling a 201, while senior Sarah McComic tallied a 187.

On Saturday, Tech drew the number one overall seed, and eventual tournament champion, Arkansas State. The Lady Techsters battled early on, taking a narrow 895-857 victory in the traditional format, led by a 207 from McComic.

Leading 1-0 in the best-of-three matchup, Tech saw Arkansas State even up the contest with a 1,078-892 win in the baker match. Tied at 1-1, the matchup went to a best-of-seven contest, that saw the Red Wolves take a 4-0 victory, and advance in the elimination bracket.

Tech saw a banner season under second-year head coach Matt Nantais. The squad was ranked nationally for the first time in school history, while earning six top-10 finishes throughout the year. The team also set a new mark for the highest game in school history (287) and knocked off the no. 1 team in the nation earlier this season.
