Five Bulldogs Recognized in All-Louisiana Baseball Awards

RUSTON, La. – Following up on a 39-win season, the awards continued to roll in for the Louisiana Tech baseball team, as five Bulldogs were honored in Sunday's release of the 2018 LSWA All-Louisiana Baseball Awards.

Tech pitcher Logan Bailey was named First Team All-Louisiana, adding to his first team all-conference and first team all-district selections. Bailey finished his first season as a Bulldog with the second-lowest ERA in Conference USA at 2.24. The southpaw was a perfect 6-0 in league play, with a spectacular 2.02 ERA against C-USA foes. His eight wins were the fourth-most in the league, and led the team. Bailey pitched at least five complete innings in 11 of his 14 starts, and allowed two of fewer earned runs in 12 of those starts. The Bulldogs were 12-2 when Bailey took the mound.

Fellow left-handed starter David Leal was named to the state's second team along with outfielder Parker Bates. Leal, a Second Team All-Conference USA selection, finished with the second-lowest ERA in the league at 2.27. He led the team and ranked seventh in C-USA with 87.1 innings pitched. His 6.23 strikeout-to-walk ration was third-best in the league and 26th best among national leaders. He allowed two or fewer earned runs in 10 of his 13 starts, and posted a WHIP of 0.90, which was second-best in the league and 15th-best nationally.

Meanwhile, Bates, also a Second Team All-Conference USA member, finished the season with 50 RBI and 18 doubles – both of which were team bests. The centerfielder started all 59 games in the outfield, and made just one fielding error on 139 chances in center (.993 fielding %). He was second on the team with 15 stolen bases (15-for-22) and led the Bulldogs with 13 multiple-RBI games

Senior Dalton Skelton and sophomore Hunter Wells rounded out Tech's selections with each receiving an honorable mention nod.

Skelton led the team in home runs with nine during his senior campaign. He also paced the squad with five triples, which were second most among C-USA leaders. Skelton registered team-highs in total bases (117), extra-base hits (27) and owned the team's longest hitting streak at 16 games.

Wells, a First Team All-Conference USA member, set a new Tech single-season record with 91 hits. He also hit for the first cycle in program history against UTSA on April 8. The sophomore led the team with 30 multiple-hit games and ranked second with 11 multiple-RBI contests. His batting average of .357 led the team and was the fourth highest mark in C-USA. His 91 hits were the most of any player in the league.
