LA Tech Continues Home Stand versus UAB, Rice

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on Friday versus UAB and 1 p.m. on Sunday against Rice
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech soccer team looks to keep its 11-match home winning streak alive this weekend when they take on UAB and Rice on James Field at Hoss Garrett Stadium on the campus of Ruston High School.
The two matches are part of a four-game home stand for the Lady Techsters with Friday's game against the Blazers kicking off at 3 p.m. and Sunday's game versus the Owls starting at 1 p.m.
LA Tech (11-1-1, 3-1 C-USA) played some of its best soccer this past weekend, sweeping top-20 RPI and defending league champion Florida Atlantic and FIU.
By doing so, the Lady Techsters extended its program-record home winning streak and cracked the top 10 of the South Region poll by the United Soccer Coaches.
In the 1-0 victory over FAU, it was only the second time this season that an opponent had shutout the Owls. It took overtime, but Autumn Woodard netted the game-winning golden goal to give LA Tech three points.
The squad turned around on Sunday and got goals from Connor Barker, Alpine Williams and the game-winning goal again from Woodard to win 3-1 for another three points, bringing their season total to nine which is tied for third going into the weekend.
Woodard was named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week for a third time this season as a result. Over the weekend, she set two single-season program records – 15 goals and 34 points. The 15 goals leads the country and the 34 points ranks second in the nation.
Jaelyn Peeples and Kaylee Zettler played every minute of the two matches. As did Carlotta Cartelli who got both starts in goal, allowing just one goal while recording seven total saves to improve her season record to 5-1.
UAB (2-4-4, 0-2-1 C-USA) is one of the top defensive teams in the league, having surrendered just nine total goals all season. Four of their matches have gone into double overtime and ended in a draw, including three that were scoreless. Time in net has been split between Eve Beyer and Johanna Popp.
The Blazers have struggled to find the back of the net though, totaling just nine goals on the year with three of those coming from Megan Hudgens.
LA Tech and UAB will play for a sixth straight year on Friday. The Lady Techsters won the first four meetings, two of which came in Ruston. However, the Blazers picked up their first win of the series last year with a 1-0 shutout victory in Birmingham.
Rice (6-4-1, 3-0-1 C-USA) played a difficult non-conference schedule which has prepared them for league play where they are one of two teams still undefeated. The Owls come into Sunday on a four-match unbeaten streak with wins over Charlotte, UTSA and UAB and a draw with Middle Tennessee.
They have allowed just two goals during this four-game stretch. Their primary keeper has been Bella Killgore who has totaled 31 saves for a 3-2 record.
Offensively, Haley Kostyshyn and Louise Stephens have scored four goals apiece which is over half of Rice's total scoring output this season.
Rice has dominated the all-time series with LA Tech, having won all six meetings. The Owls are the only team in C-USA that the Lady Techsters have never beaten on the pitch.
