LA Tech Plays at Southern Miss in Regular Season Finale

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on Friday
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech soccer team looks to secure a spot in the Conference USA Tournament on Friday afternoon when they wrap up the regular season at Southern Miss with kickoff set at 3 p.m. at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
After recording just one point in its previous four league matches, LA Tech (12-4-2, 4-4-1 C-USA) grabbed a much-needed three points this past Sunday in a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Marshall in the final home match of the 2019 season.
Klesha Darroux netted both equalizers (her first goals of the season), the second one coming with just 10 minutes remaining in the match. Then with under six minutes to go in regulation, Jaelyn Peeples notched the game-winning goal.
The victory put the Lady Techsters point total at 13 and in a three-way tie for sixth place with UTEP and Middle Tennessee going into the final match of the regular season. The team needs to finish in the top eight in order to qualify for what would be a sixth straight C-USA Tournament.
For Peeples, her final home match as a Lady Techster was career start No. 77 which set a new program record. The four other seniors made starts as well in the game, including Stella Li who played the full 90 minutes in her return from injury that has sidelined her most of the season.
Southern Miss (7-9-1, 2-6-1 C-USA) picked up five wins in the non-conference, but has only won two league matches. The Golden Eagles will be playing their last game of the season as they were mathematically eliminated from potential postseason play after this past weekend's results of a 5-0 loss to Middle Tennessee and a scoreless draw with UAB.
Despite not scoring in their last two games, USM is anchored offensively by Hailey Pohevitz and Ariel Diaz who have each recorded seven goals on the season. Primarily in net has been Kendell Mindnich who has totaled 62 saves and a 1.48 goals against average.
LA Tech and Southern Miss will meet on the pitch for the ninth straight year and the 10th time overall. The Golden Eagles won the first ever meeting in 2016, but the Lady Techsters are unbeaten in the series over the last eight meetings. They are 6-0-2 during that stretch, having won four straight.
