@LATechBOWL Places 5th at Stallings Invitational; Leiendecker Earns All-Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The no. 17 Louisiana Tech women's bowling team won twice on Sunday to place fifth in a field of eight ranked teams at the Stallings Invitational.

Allie Leiendecker earned all-tournament honors after placing third with a 219.33 average. It was the freshman's second all-tournament selection of the season. Emily Rettig also placed in the top-15, coming in 12th with a 204.83 average. Ashley Channell placed 27th with a 186.50.

"We had a very successful weekend. Finishing with the record that we had at this event shows the talent that we have on this team. Everyone contributed at one point or another during the weekend. It was nice to see them fight back and win matches when we were down." said Lady Techster head coach Matt Nantais. "This was by far our best weekend as a team. It was also nice to see Allie make her second All-Tournament team."

The Lady Techsters picked up wins over Tusculum and (RV) Prairie View A&M on Sunday to earn fifth. Tech entered Sunday's bracket play just 45 pins outside of the top-four, which meant that they highest finish they could earn was fifth.

In the first of two Sunday rounds, the Lady Techsters took down Tusculum in seven games. Down 3-1 after the first four Baker matches, Tech won the final three 190-177, 199-167, and 259-144 to advance. The Lady Techsters then needed just five games (205-186, 239-234, 225-190, 180-229, 193-190) to dispatch of the Panthers and earn fifth place.

Tech opened the tournament with four Baker wins on the first day of competition. The Lady Techsters took down Tusculum (945-890), Howard (966-846), no. 19 UAB (1,040-1,006), and no. 13 Lincoln Memorial (954-818). The only loss of the day came against (RV) Prairie View A&M (1,022-952). Tech's overall pinfall of 4.857 placed them seventh after Friday's competition.

Leiendecker led the way as Tech made its move on the second day. The freshman posted five games over 200 to lead the Lady Techsters past no. 15 Delaware State and (RV) Prairie View A&M in overall pinfall, placing them in 5th. Tech picked up wins over Coppin State, Texas Southern, and no. 7 Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Tech will return to competition in 2020 when it travels to Croyden, Penn. on Jan. 17 for the Northeast Invitational.
