Bowling Concludes Action at Southland Championship

DALLAS – The No. 23 Louisiana Tech bowling team concluded action at the 2019 Southland Bowling League Championship on Saturday, falling in the second round of the elimination bracket to the Arkansas State Red Wolves.

"The season didn't finish the way we were hoping, head coach Matt Nantais remarked.  "The Southland is the toughest conference for NCAA bowling.  We had our chances to move up in the bracket, but we didn't make a few key shots down the stretch.  We are a really young team and I only see great things in the future for us.  Kendall Hickman, our only senior. did have one of her best tournaments this past weekend.  Overall we had a great season and I was happy with the growth and teamwork this group has shown. The team will get a few days off, and then we will start preparing for next season."

The Lady Techsters fell to the Red Wolves, 2-0 as Arkansas State outscored Tech 948-795 in the traditional format and by a narrow 916-911 margin in the Baker contest.

LA Tech entered the weekend as the no. 7 overall seed, matched up in the first round with the no. 2 seeded Sam Houston State Bearkats on Friday morning.

The Bearkats took both the traditional (946-860) and the Baker portions (975-853) of the first-round matchup. Kat Dickerson led Sam Houston State with a 229 to lead all scorers, while Kaitlyn Eder led the Techsters with a 189.

After the opening defeat, Tech dropped down to the elimination side of the bracket and stayed alive with an impressive victory over the no. 6 seed Youngstown State. The Lady Techsters ousted the Penguins with a pair of wins in the traditional and baker total pinfall contests. Tech tabbed three bowlers in the 200 scoring category, with Kaitlyn Eder finding her stride and leading the team with a 215 in the traditional match, while Emily Rettig (209) and Lindsay Manning (201) joined her in the 200 threshold.

Louisiana Tech grabbed a 925-891 win in the Baker portion to complete the 2-0 victory to end the day Friday.
