Kickoffs set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech Soccer team faces another pair of in-state programs this weekend, starting on Friday when the Lady Techsters make the short trek down I-20 to take on the ULM Warhawks at 7 p.m. inside Brown Stadium.
LA Tech (4-0) will then head to Natchitoches on Sunday, Sept. 1 to battle Northwestern State at 1 p.m. at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.
This will conclude a challenging road stretch to start the season, one though that has resulted in four victories by a combined score of 22-1.
The Lady Techsters ended up having another day off as a result of inclement weather in the Thibodaux area which forced a cancellation with their Wednesday matchup against Nicholls State. It was only the third canceled match since 2013 for LA Tech.
A total of 27 players have seen action so far this season. Offensively, junior Amber Posthauer leads the way with six goals which were all done in the 15-0 win at Alcorn State and which set the program and Conference USA single-game record.
Right before Posthauer though in the goals department is sophomore Autumn Woodard who has found the back of the net five times, including at least one goal in each of the last three contests.
Defensively, LA Tech has conceded only one goal while allowing only 13 total shots. Four different keepers have seen action in the four games played.
ULM (0-1-1) will be playing its home opener on Friday as both of their matches so far this season have come on the road, falling 3-2 at Grambling State and tying Southeastern Louisiana, 1-1.
The Warhawks have totaled three goals by three different players. In net has been Angel Hailey for both contests, allowing four goals to go along with eight saves.
Friday will mark the sixth meeting ever between LA Tech and ULM on the soccer pitch. The first meeting came in 2007 with the Warhawks prevailing, 2-1. However, the Lady Techsters have won each of the last four meetings over the last four years by a combined score of 11-1.
NSU (0-2) enters the weekend having suffered losses at defending C-USA champion North Texas and at No. 14 Baylor. The Lady Demons did notch two goals against the Bears from Kiara Padilla and Olivia Draguicevich.
After playing three times from 2004-06, the two programs separated by less than two hours met up again last season in Ruston with NSU coming out on top by a final score of 3-2, scoring all three goals in the first period. It was the only home for LA Tech in all of 2018. NSU leads the all-time series, 3-0-1.
