LA Tech Set for Two Matches this Weekend, Including Home Opener

Kickoffs are set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday
RUSTON – After traveling all over the region the last two weeks to play six road games, the Louisiana Tech soccer team will play its first match in Ruston on Friday night at 7 p.m. versus McNeese State at Ruston Junior High School.
This is the first of six "home" games for LA Tech (6-0) this season that will be played at RJHS. The Lady Techsters will turn around and head to the state of Alabama on Sunday to take on Montevallo at 1 p.m.
LA Tech continued its hot start to the 2019 season this past Sunday, remaining undefeated after a 3-1 victory at Northwestern State. The first win ever over the Lady Demons came as a result of two set-piece goals by senior Jaelyn Peeples and the game-winning goal by sophomore Autumn Woodard.
The Lady Techsters are off to their best start to the season since 2009 and a big reason for that has been the impact of Peeples and Woodard.
Peeples is one of two Lady Techsters to start all six games this season and has already amassed six assists to go along with her two goals scored against NSU. Then there is Woodard who was recently named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week for week two.
The transfer from South Florida currently leads the team in points (19) and goals (eight), having scored in five straight games which is a new program record.
McNeese (2-1) has wins over Southern and Prairie View A&M while the lone loss came at No. 24 LSU. The Cowgirls bring back eight starters from last season and were picked to finish fourth in the Southland Conference preseason poll.
Goalkeeper Kelly Hines and defender Keely Morrow were recently named the SLC Goalkeeper and Defensive Player of the Week. Offensively, Anna Watson leads the team with three goals scored.
LA Tech and McNeese will meet on the pitch for the ninth time, the second most meetings for the Lady Techsters against a non-conference opponent. Each team has won four meetings with LA Tech winning the last one which came in the 2017 season opener in Lake Charles.
Montevallo (0-0) opens its 2019 season against Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday before taking on the Lady Techsters on Sunday. The Falcons return 17 players from last year's team which advanced to the Gulf South Conference championship for the first time since 2009.
This will be the first ever meeting between LA Tech and Montevallo.
