LA Tech Continues Conference Play at North Texas

RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech soccer team continues Conference USA play on Friday night when they play at North Texas. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Soccer and Track & Field Stadium in Denton, Texas.

LA Tech (8-3, 1-1 C-USA) has split its first two league matches. Both went into overtime, falling by a score of 1-2 at UTEP and downing UTSA, 1-0, in Ruston this past Friday.
The Lady Techsters have won six of their last seven matches, including the double OT thriller over the Roadrunners. With the match scoreless through 100 minutes, LA Tech and UTSA went into the second extra frame. In the 105th minute, Sophie Fijneman delivered the golden goal.
The sophomore was named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week after totaling two goals and one assist this past week. The midfielder currently leads the team in points (12), goals (four) and assists (four). She has scored a goal in three of the last four matches and has scored at least one point in six of the last seven.
Sophomore Christina Hjelvik made her first career start in net for a C-USA game and went on to register her first career shutout, notching five saves in the process versus UTSA. As a result, she was named the C-USA Goalkeeper of the Week.
LA Tech improved to 2-1 in overtime matches this season and has gone 11-2-11 in its last 25 OT matches.
North Texas (4-0, 1-0 C-USA) enters Friday with no losses on its resume. The Mean Green have only surrendered one goal in 2020-21, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 11-1.
UNT is coming off a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma and a 2-1 win in its C-USA opener at Rice. Nine different players have scored a goal for the Mean Green, including two apiece by Berklee Peters and Connor Barker. In net, Kelsey Brann has played all 360 minutes this season.
North Texas leads the all-time series over LA Tech, 4-1-2. The last meeting came in the 2018 C-USA Tournament Semifinals where the Lady Techsters and Mean Green ended the match in a 1-1 tie. UNT advanced to the finals on penalty kicks.
