LA Tech Hosts Rice, ULM this Weekend

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Sunday
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech soccer team hosts a pair of weekend matches at the Ruston Sports Complex, the first game coming against Conference USA opponent Rice on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a non-conference with ULM on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Only four regular season matches remain for LA Tech (8-4, 1-2 C-USA) with three of those coming against league foes and three of them taking place in Ruston.
The Lady Techsters played only one match last week, falling 1-0 to North Texas in Denton. It was just the second time during the 2020-21 season the team was shutout. It was also the first C-USA match this season that did not go into overtime (lost 2-1 in OT to UTEP and won 1-0 in double OT against UTSA).
With three points, LA Tech is tied for fourth in the West Division standings along with Rice and UAB.
The team is still led by sophomore Sophie Fijneman who has tallied four goals and four assists for 12 points. She also has a team-high 23 shots, 10 of those coming on goal.
In net, Maggie Boston has made a team-high six appearances. She played the full 90 minutes against the Mean Green, amassing seven saves to bring her season total to 19.
Rice (5-2, 1-1 C-USA) has played two conference matches, winning at UTSA by a score of 3-2 and falling 2-1 at home to North Texas. In their most recent action, the Owls defeated 12th-ranked Texas A&M, 3-2.
Offensively, the team is anchored by Madison Kent who has four goals on the season. Bella Killgore has played every minute in net, totaling 29 saves with a 1.27 goals against average.
ULM (4-11) played its conference schedule in the fall, but has also played five non-conference games during the spring. The Warhawks have won three straight matches against Southern, Grambling State and Nicholls State by a combined score of 9-0.
Individually, Janet Stopka leads the team in almost every offensive category including goals (eight), points (16), shots (37) and shots on goal (18). Hailey Hillock has seen action in net in all 15 matches.
Rice leads the all-time series, 6-0-1. The draw came last season in Ruston when the Lady Techsters came back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match. LA Tech leads ULM, 5-1, having won five straight in the series.
