No. 9 LA Tech Bowling to Compete at Intercollegiate Team Championships

RUSTON, La. – The No. 9 Louisiana Tech women's bowling team will have one more chance for a national championship this week as the Lady Techsters are set to compete at the Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC). This is the first LA Tech appearance at the ITC in program history.

"This weekend is going to be fast paced," head coach Matt Nantais said. "We will start with qualifying and then move right into match play. The goal is to stay in the winners' bracket. With the quality of the teams here, our spare shooting needs to be on point. We will have a practice session this evening to get an idea of what we will be bowling on tomorrow. But, as we know, practice does not always play the same once we start competition."

The ITC will take place Thursday through Saturday at the Spectrum Entertainment Complex in Wyoming, Mich.

Louisiana Tech is part of a competitive field of 16 teams, including No. 3 McKendree, No. 6 North Carolina A&T, No. 12 Mount St. Mary's, No. 13 Delaware State, No. 14 Stephen F. Austin, No. 15 Maryville, No. 18 Lincoln Memorial, No. 20 Monmouth, Baker, Lawrence Tech, Mount Mercy, Newman, St. Ambrose, Wichita State and Wisconsin.

The teams will compete in 12 Baker games for total pinfall in the women's qualifying round to determine seeding on Thursday. They will then compete in a best-of-seven Baker, double-elimination series. Round one of the best-of-seven Bakers will be played following the qualifying round on Thursday. Rounds two through six will then be played on Friday. A round seven match will be played Saturday morning if necessary.

LA Tech qualified for the ITC at the Intercollegiate Team Sectionals in April. The team qualifiers of the Dallas Sectional took place over two days with teams competing in 20 Baker games on each day for a total of 40 games. The total pinfall determined which teams advanced to the ITC. Louisiana Tech finished the sectionals third with 7,482 total pins.
