FRANKLIN, Tenn. --
Mac Murphy shot a three-round total of seven-under-par (206) to finish in a two-way tie for seventh place at the Mason Rudolph Championships at Vanderbilt Legends Club (South Course).
Murphy fired rounds of 69-66-71 at the par 71 course that played 7,100 yards. He recorded the top 10 finish in a field of 87 golfers.
"Mac had a solid week in a good field," said head coach
Matt Terry. "Hopefully he can continue that play the rest of the season."
As a team, Tech finished in a tie for eighth place with Mississippi State. Vanderbilt won the event with a team total of 46-under-par (806) followed by Liberty (815), Tennessee (836), Middle Tennessee (844), Ohio State (846), Cincinnati (847), Virginia (860), Tech (861), Miss State (861), Memphis (863), West Virginia (863), Santa Clara (867), Ball State (872), Kennesaw State (882) and WKU (888).
"As a team we made some good runs this week," said Terry. "We played with our third different lineup this spring. And we are still looking for the right mix to get us the results we are looking for.
"We are still making too many little mistakes that is slowing down the good runs. Today and all week we had too many scores over bogey. We counted three doubles and a triple today.
"We have to get back to Ruston and see what we can work on to continue to get better before we go to Miss State on Saturday."
