HARAHAN, La. – The No. 10 ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team ended the first day of the Colonial Lanes Classic with a 5-0 record and sit second after the Baker portion of the tournament in Harahan, La. on Friday.

The Bulldogs used a big 247 in the final game against No. 4 North Carolina A&T to take the 1,018-1,001 win. LA Tech started the match with a 193 to take a 13-pin advantage, but four open frames in the second game saw NCAT take a 24-pin lead. Tech fought their way back with 221, 202, and 247 games in the final three to take the match.

LA Tech continued to ride that momentum into the second match and earned an easy victory 1,053-832 over Prairie View A&M. The Bulldogs found themselves up 23 after the first and 64 after the second and cruised with games of 223, 190, 244, 202, and 194.

The third match produced the same result for Tech, a 1,031-909 win over Southern University. The Bulldogs jumped to an 81-pin lead after game one and never looked back, outscoring Southern in four of the five games. LA Tech had 206, 192, 225, 206, and 202 games.

LA Tech had their highest set of the day in a 1,064-971 victory over Emmanuel College. Tech fired games of 219, 226, 226, 218, and 175 on the way to being the only team in the plus each of the four matches.

QUOTABLES
Head Coach Matt Nantais …

"Today was a great way to start the season off. In our first match, we were down after four games and came back to get the win, and that momentum carried us the rest of the day. Team chemistry was great all day. We still left quite a few pins on the deck today, missing some spares we should not have. Tomorrow, we move to the team games and hope to stay in the top four to have a chance at the championship on Sunday."

UP NEXT
The Bulldogs return to Colonial Lanes on Saturday morning for five traditional games. The Bulldogs will take on Alabama State, No. 12 University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Florida A&M, No. 5 Stephen F. Austin, and Oklahoma Christian.
