Woodbridge, Va. – The No. 10 Louisiana Tech bowling team shot solid scores, but spare shooting ended up being the difference on day one of the Hawk Classic at Bowl America Woodbridge on Friday.
The Bulldogs finished the day with a 2-3 record and 5,295 total pinfall.
LA Tech looked to be off to a good start on the day by taking down No. 15 Fairleigh Dickson 1,059-989. That momentum quickly faded with missed spares in a 1,076-995 loss to No. 12 Maryland Eastern Shore.
The Bulldogs bounced big and were able to string some strikes together to take match three, 1,098-1,038, against No. 18 Mount St. Mary's.
Open frames would come back to cost Louisiana Tech in the final two matches of the day. The Bulldogs would lose the last two by a combined 34 pins, 1,038-1,033 to No. 11 Duquesne and 1,139-1,110 to No. 24 Merrimack.
