Bulldogs Start 5-0 at the Northeast Classic

NEW CASTLE, Del. – Louisiana Tech went a perfect 5-0 on the first day of the Northeast Classic at Bowlerama on Friday. The fourth-ranked Bulldogs sit in 12th after an opening-round pinfall of 4,961.

Louisiana Tech opened the day against Wagner College. The Bulldogs were heading towards a middle to high 1,000 with games of 194, 211, 238, and 212 to start the match. However, five open frames, including two splits, set them back with a 142 for a 997 total. Wagner would throw games of 196, 177, 177, 180, and an 898 total, giving Tech the win.

Tech's scoring would bounce back against No. 24 Delaware State in match two. The Hornets jumped to a 20-pin lead after taking game one 213-200 and game two 204-197. Tech would continue to fight and make up that difference in game three with a 214-190. Both teams would struggle in games four and five, but Tech would take both, 186-172 and 166-158.

Tech had the ball rolling in taking down No. 14 University of Maryland Eastern Shore 1,011-927. The Bulldogs didn't have many big strings of strikes but stayed clean for most of the match. Tech put together games of 181, 214, 221, 189, and 206, while the Hawks had games of 203, 186, 163, 207, and 168.

Another low game hurt the Bulldogs' chances of another set in the plus, but that wouldn't matter for the win. Using games of 234, 187, 211, 156, and 192, Tech would beat Saint Francis 980-859.

The Bulldogs saved their best scoring for last. LA Tech opened the match with a 226 to take a commanding 83-pin lead over Long Island. That lead continued to balloon to 153 after games of 164 and 246. The two teams would tie in game four, and the Sharks would roll a 236 to the Bulldogs 211 to take game five, but Tech would cruise to a 1,012-894 win.
