LAS VEGAS – The fourth-ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team struggled to find their mark on Monday afternoon at the Stormin' Blue and White Vegas Classic at the South Point Bowling Plaza.
In the low-scoring event, LA Tech sits in ninth place with a 4,657-pin count in the Baker portion of the schedule. No. 1 Jacksonville State had the highest set of the day to open the tournament and led the way with a 4,997.
After an open in the second frame, Tech strung together eight strikes in a row and started the tournament with a 247. Unable to keep the scoring up, the Bulldogs finished with ten opens in the next two games. They would rebound to shoot 232 in game four but fell to tournament host No. 15 Mount St. Mary's 959-935 but were fifth in total pins.
Consistent spare shooting led Tech to games of 209, 219, and 196 to close out the second match, beating Adelphi 957-806.
The Bulldogs bowled unopposed in the third rotation with an odd number of teams in the tournament. Splits would cause problems as the team threw 10 in an 843 set. Six more splits cost Tech a 925-920 loss to No. 20 Oklahoma Christian.
LA Tech finished the day with their highest set despite throwing eight more splits, primarily due to a big third game. The Bulldogs started with the front seven in a 258 game. That would give them a 1,002-962 win over No. 8 Duquesne.
