Bulldogs Pick Up Four Wins on Day One of Destination Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — The seventh-ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team went 4-1 on the opening day of the Destination Orlando at AMF Sky Lanes in Orlando, Florida. The Bulldogs finished with a total pinfall of 4,886 to sit in eighth place.

Tech asserted their dominance early against No. 6 North Carolina A&T. The Bulldogs started with a strike and spare before reeling off an eight-bagger before a 9-pin ended their run for a 269. Two splits cost them another game in the plus, but NCAT could only make up eight pins. The Dogs picked up their scoring again in the third with nine strikes on their way to 238. From there, LA Tech would cruise to a 1,050-903 win.

The Bulldogs had a more consistent set in the second match against Alabama State. LA Tech took an early 41-pin lead after rolling a 204 in the first game. Two opens would lead to a 170 second game, but the Hornets couldn't capitalize and rolled a 173 themselves. The third game would be back into the plus, 206, but ASU would shoot a 231 to 13. The Dogs would close the match with a 192 and 190 to give them the 962-893 victory.

Tech continued to roll into match number three against Daemen. The Bulldogs fell behind after game one with 180 but clawed their way back with 217 and 204 to take a 15-pin lead. They separated themselves with 203 in the fourth compared to 159 by the Wildcats. Tech did enough in game five to pull out a 986-976 win.

The fourth match was a tight battle for the first three games against No. 2 Arkansas State. The Bulldogs took a 1-pin lead after rolling a 205 to open the match. The Red Wolves flipped the scripts and grabbed a 2-pin lead after game two, and Tech would cut it back down to one after three. The fourth game would be the deciding factor as LA Tech would be unable to find their mark with five opens and fall behind by 62 more pins. They would quickly turn things around in the final game for a 224, but Arkansas State would finish with a 228 to take the match 985-918.

The Bulldogs wouldn't have a game lower than 183 in the final set against Monmouth. Still, Tech would have two opens per game but could string strikes together. The Hawks took an early 40-pin lead after the Bulldogs rolled a 183 to open the match. Things quickly changed as Tech shot 187 to gain the lead and would extend it to 56 pins after a 205 in game three. The Bulldogs followed that with a 214 and 183 to finish the day with a 972-940 victory.

Destination Orlando continues tomorrow with five traditional matches. The Bulldogs will take on Florida A&M, Emmanual, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 13 Tulane, and tournament host No. 18 Sacred Heart.
