Team Effort Propels Bulldogs to Weekend Sweep

The Bulldogs have won seven straight SWIBC tournaments over the past four seasons.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Led by Kylee Trexler and Abbie Leiendecker, the seventh-ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team made it a sweep of the Southwestern Intercollegiate Bowling Conference (SWIBC) tournaments at Cityview Lanes in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Bulldogs won by over 100 pints over second-place No. 11 Stephen F. Austin and over 600 pins over third-place Texas A&M. Six Tech bowlers averaged over 186 for the six traditional games.

Trexler and Leiendecker battled it out for tournament MVP honors after being one of five bowlers to average in the plus on the day, four of the five being a Bulldog.

LA Tech opened the day with a solid 964. Allyson Sand, the lone senior, and Leiendecker led the scoring with 212 apiece. Jenna Stretch was the other Bulldog to finish over 200 at 202. Sand and Leiendecker tied again in the second game with a 202, while Tech upped their team total to 979. After opening in the 10th, Kylee Trexler stayed clean and finished with a five-bagger to roll a 236 to get over even on the day.

The Bulldogs threw their first 1000 on the weekend, hitting it on the nose. Trexler shot 227 to get to plus 53, while Leiendecker had a 210 to be at plus 24 after three. Freshman Ashley Imhoff had a 190 in her first action of the day. Trexler had her third consecutive clean game to finish at 202, while Leiendecker finished with a 193 in the fourth set.

The final two games saw LA Tech throw their highest games of the weekend. The Bulldogs rolled a 1,069, with every bowler rolling a 189 or better. Leiendecker took the lead in the individual standings after shooting the back nine for 251. Rachel Ong (221) and Arianna Araujo (213) were in the plus, while Paulina Avalos (195) and Trexler (189) rounded out the scoring.

Tech finished the day with a 1,065, partly thanks to three 225+ games. Trexler finished with a 267 to edge out Leiendecker (226) by seven pins. Araujo had a 236 to get into the plus on the day.

Trexler finished with a 1,301 total, followed by Leiendecker at 1,294 to take the top two spots by 100 pins. Ong had a 409 for two games while Araujo had a 607 for three as the other two Bulldogs over even. Sand finished with a 770, and Stretch had a 745 for four games.
