HOUSTON — The seventh-ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team went 3-2 on the opening day of the Track Kat Klash and Emerald Bowl in Houston on Friday.
Louisiana Tech opened the tournament with a six-bagger to take a commanding lead over Alabama State. An open in the 10th would halt the Bulldogs from seeing their score reach 240, but they were still able to roll a 228. Tech would have a 79-pin lead after game one and continued to increase that lead with a 190, 203, 179, and 188. The Bulldogs would come away with a 988-841 win over the Hornets.
The Bulldogs struggled to get anything going against Central Missouri. Tech not only shot their lowest game and set of the season but also failed to break 800, falling to the Jennies 866-789.
Finding their mark against No. 21 McKendree, Tech would hold the edge until the last game. The Bulldogs rolled a 213, 171, 212, and 209 to start the match and held a 32-pin advantage after four. However, two opens in the sixth and seventh frames would cost them as the Bearcats rolled a 211 to take the set 984-978.
LA Tech would get back into the win column the final two matches, beating Adelphi and No. 15 Newman by over 100 pines each.
The Bulldogs started with three straight opens against the Panthers, but a 3-5-6-7 pickup helped Tech pull out the game 188-171. An open in the 10thg of game two nearly cost the Dogs their lead but instead came away with another 188 to pick up another pin. From there is was smooth sailing for Tech, finishing the set with 182, 214, and 191 to take the match 963-853.
It was feast or famine for the Bulldogs against the Jets. Tech finished with 25 strikes in the five-game set but also had nine opens. The match was close with the Dogs holding a 16-pin advantage after three but finished with 202 and 205 to close out opening day on a high note with a 945-842 win.
