Bulldogs in Seventh After Opening Day of Motive Ladyjack Classic

KENOSHA, Wis. — The seventh-ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team went 2-3 but found themselves in seventh after the opening day of the Motive Ladyjack Classic at Sheridan Lanes on Friday. The Bulldogs finished with a pin count of 4,888.

Louisiana Tech started the day with a solid 938, but that was enough as No. 2 Arkansas State shot 1,067. The Bulldogs found themselves in a 37-pin hole after opening with a 183 and couldn't recover. They would finish with games of 171, 189, 222, and 173.

Against No. 22 Wisconsin-Whitewater, Tech opened with a 204 to grab an early 11-pin lead. The lead would shrink by two after three opens caused them to roll a 168. That lead would jump back up to 34 after a 197 and 209. They would need all those pins as the Warhawks shot a 202 in the final game and the Bulldogs would roll a 169, just enough to come away with a 947-946 victory.

The third match would be a high-scoring affair, with both teams shooting over 1,050. Tech shot 197 and 214, but No. 3 Youngstown State would take an 81-pin advantage with 278 and 214. The Bulldogs cut into the deficit with a 232 to pull within 19. They would continue to battle, strung a six-bagger together for a 256, and take a 38-pin lead heading into the final game. Tech would drop the fifth with a 189 but ended with a 1,088-1,059 win.

The Bulldogs continued to roll the ball and looked like they were on their way to another victory against No. 9 Maryville. Tech took an early two-pin lead with a 180 but fell behind after a 217. After throwing a 214 and 244, they had a 31-pin advantage heading into the final game. The Bulldogs couldn't string strikes together and rolled a 165 to fall 1,037-1,20.

Tech continued to roll the ball well to open the set against No. 21 McKendree. The Bulldogs raced out to a 35-pin advantage with a 223 to start. However, opens would haunt Tech for the remaining four games. They would finish the day with 184, 169, 181, and 138, falling to the Bearkats 952-895.

UP NEXT
Louisiana Tech returns for the traditional portion of the tournament tomorrow morning when they take on No. 1 Jacksonville State. They will bowl the bye before finishing out the day with No. 11 Stephen F. Austin, No. 5. Nebraska, and Lewis.
