Smyrna, Tenn. – The seventh-ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team closed out the first day of the Columbia 300 Music City Classic with strong sets to sit in eighth at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
The Bulldogs finished the Baker portion of the tournament with a total pin count of 4,933.
LA Tech opened the day with a solid showing but left pins on the deck with nine opens. The Bulldogs shot games of 172, 213, 180, 189, and 211 in an opening match loss to North Carolina A&T 1,009-965.
They would come back and get a win in the next match but would shoot their lowest scores of the day. The Bulldogs would take down CUSA foe No. 20 Valparaiso 882-850.
Tech bounced back and finished the day with three strong scores, finishing 4-1.
The Bulldogs responded with 209, 226, 189, and 202 games before stumbling in the final game with a 167. Tech defeated Belmont Abbey College 992-858.
Tech would shoot their first game of the plus and needed every pin in the 1,035-1,001 victory over Lewis University. The Bulldogs started slow with a 148 but quickly picked up the pace to roll a 248, 181, 234, and 224.
They would close the day with their highest set, taking down Howard 1,059-810.
