Trexler Advances to USBC ISC Quarterfinals

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. — Louisiana Tech freshman Kylee Trexler qualified fourth after the opening six games and won her second-round matchup to advance to the quarterfinals of the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships at Kingpin Lanes in Jeffersontown, Ky., on Tuesday.

Trexler opened the day with a turkey on her way to rolling a 211. She started game two with the front six before finishing with a 237 to move into fourth early in the day. A second straight 237, this time with the last six, moved her into second with a 685.

Picking up the baby split to start game four, Trexler would strike nine of the next 11 for 249, her highest game of the day. She would again begin hot with five strikes through the first six frames but would run into trouble in the back half of the game and finish with a 202.

Another four strikes in the first half of the final game made it look like she would make a push for the top seed, but four straight opens to finish out qualifying moved her to fourth with a 1,298.

With the fourth seed, Trexler would get a bye in the opening round and face the winner of 13 seed Brystal Beyer of Stephen F. Austin and 20 seed Molly Chiesa of Sacred Heart. Beyer would come away with the 601-575 series win.

Fresh off the break, Trexler would find her mark again and stayed clean except for a 7-10 in the ninth to take a 43-pin lead with a 236. Splits would be costly in game two as she would finish with three and a missed seven for a 163, while Beyer stayed steady for a 205.

Clinging to a one-pin lead heading into the final game, the two bowlers battled back and forth. Stepping up in the 10th game, Trexler had an opportunity to shut Beyer out. Trexler would get an eight count on her first ball, and all she would need to do would be to spare and strike on her fill shot. She would get the mark by the seven-pin, leaving the door open for Beyer to tie. Beyer would hit high and leave the six, and Trexler would come away with a 601-580 victory.

Trexler advances to the quarterfinal round on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. CT. against Hailey Bozych of Lindenwood University. The winner of that matchup will advance to the live TV semifinals on Saturday, April 20, at 2:15 p.m. CT.
