Bulldogs’ Season Ends at USBC ITC Nationals

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. — The Louisiana Tech bowling team advanced to round six of the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championship before falling to Mount Mercy on Friday at Kingpin Lanes.

LA Tech started the day slow but won game one 191-184. Maryville would rattle off three consecutive victories, 192-172, 246-157, and 191-182, to take a 3-1 advantage.

Having to win or face being eliminated, the Bulldogs made shots when needed and won game five 208-190. Needing a mark and some pins in the 10th, Allie Leiendecker delivered and tied the match at three apiece with the 179-173 victory.

Tech left no doubt in the decisive game seven. After a spare in the first, the Bulldogs reeled off eight consecutive strikes on their way to a 255-210 win.

LA Tech made quick work of Pikeville in the next matchup. Leiendecker delivered again in the 10th with a double to lock up game one, 208-201. Danielle Jedlicki, Patricia Rosales, and Leiendecker combined for a turkey in frames eight through 10 to give the Bulldogs a 215-198 win in game two.

Game three came down to the 10th frame yet again. After the Bear's anchor bowler left the 6-10, Leiendecker struck again to secure the win 191-185. Besides a split in the third, Tech stayed clean in game four and made it a clean sweep 201-176.

Tech would have to take on the top qualifying team in Mount Mercy in the next round. Both teams would stay clean in game one, but the Mustangs started with a double that would be the difference in the 214-203 win.

Splits would haunt the Bulldogs in the next three games. Two missed baby splits and a 4-6-10 in game two would allow Mount Mercy to take it 216-170. A missed 10-pin and an unfortunate 8-10 in the 10th cost Tech the game 202-173.

Needing to win four straight, LA Tech looked like they turned things around and connected on five of their first six shots to take a commanding lead. However, splits in the eighth and ninth frames opened the door for Mount Mercy, and they took advantage, coming back to win 216-200.
