NEW CASTLE, Del. — The Louisiana Tech bowling team opened the Northeast Classic with four wins on Friday at Bowlerama.
The 12th-ranked Bulldogs (34-22) finished with a 4,864 total pinfall and are 15 out of 38 teams.
LA Tech got off to a slow start in the opening match against William Smith. The Bulldogs rolled a 169 and found themselves in a 24-pin hole early. Quickly flipping the script, LA Tech would win game two 234-134 to take a 76-pin advantage. From there, the Bulldogs would shoot games of 210, 201, and 210 to win 1,023-837.
The second set of the day would be close halfway through, but Tech would pull away in the final two games to take down #21 UAB 969-871. The Bulldogs would take a 46-pin lead after game one with a 203. They would follow that up with a 186. A couple of opens in the third allowed the Blazers to pull within 29 after Tech shot a 161. The Bulldogs would respond with a 213 and 206 to close the set.
LA Tech would get the third win of the day in another runaway fashion. This time the Bulldogs would take down Norfolk State 1,036-703. Opening with games of 174, 215, and 165, Tech would find their mark in the final two for 247 and 235.
The fourth would be a tight battle that came down to the 10th frame of the final game. Central Missouri would take a slight edge after game one, 192-190. The Jennies would extend their lead to 24 after taking the second game 183-159. Tech would have some miscues in the third but was able to take the lead after winning the third 194-161. UCM regained the lead with a 207 to the Bulldogs 195. Down three heading into the final game, Tech needed to put some marks together, and they did just that. Abbie Leiendecker stepped up in the 10th and struck on her first shot to seal the game 202-184 and take the match 938-927.
The final set would see the Bulldogs roll under 900 for the first time on the day. Tech left 12 opens, with only four of them being splits. The tournament host, No. 11 Sacred Heart, would come away with a 983-898 win.
