Bulldogs Close Out Northeast Classic With Two Wins

NEW CASTLE, Del. — The Louisiana Tech bowling team went 2-1 on the final day of the Northeast Classic at Bowlerama to finish in 11th place in the 37-team field.

Twelfth-ranked LA Tech began the day in 11th and faced No. 21 UAB in the opening match. The Bulldogs swept the Blazers, but every game was decided by 20 pins or less. Tech took the opening game 181-172. They would follow that with 197-190 and 210-193 wins before closing out the match with an 181-169 game-four victory.

The second set was another nail-biter against No. 9 Maryville. The Bulldogs rolled an 848, but the Saints were hot. Maryville took game one 243-200. LA Tech had an opportunity in the second game, but a six-count in the 10th cost them, falling 225-222. The third game came down to the fill ball; this time, an untimely split that resulted in a seven-count gave the Saints a 224-223 win. The Saints would take the fourth 248-203.

The final set of the day had Tech coming out on top 4-2. The Bulldogs let an opportunity slip early, dropping the first game 174-169. LA Tech would bounce back and lock Wright State out of the second with a strike in the 10th to win 234-211. They would run away with game three, 229-168, to take a 2-1 advantage. The Raiders evened it up in game four, but the Bulldogs would take games five and six, 191-147, 212-203.

QUOTEABLES
Head Coach Matt Nantais

" This weekend, in my opinion, was the first time we truly bonded as a team. We were fully engaged in every match, with energy levels high and support for each teammate stronger than it has been all year. Our goal was to finish with a minimum 10-3 record, and we achieved it, proving that we can compete at a high level."

"Our next event will be a challenge, but we are eager to face it head-on."

UP NEXT
Louisiana Tech will travel to Arlington, Texas, for the Prairie View A&M Invitational held at the International Training and Research Center starting on January 24.
