HARAHAN – The No. 9 Louisiana Tech bowling team opened the Colonial Lanes Classic with three wins Friday and sits in third place with a 5,166 pinfall.
 
The Bulldogs earned ranked wins over No. 2 Nebraska (1,076–1,062), No. 4 Youngstown State (1,032–848) and Southern (1,023–890). Tech dropped matches to No. 6 Arkansas State (1,078–1,092) and No. 12 Duquesne (957–986).
 
Tech sits 27 pins behind leader Vanderbilt and 18 pins back of second-place Arkansas State.
 
The Bulldogs rolled a 300 in their Baker match against Arkansas State.

"We are sitting in third place after Day 1, not far out of first. We let a couple of matches slip away that we easily could have won, and that is always a little frustrating. Things will be going really well, and then one or two shots end up costing us a match. I have to do a better job making moves and rotating athletes throughout the day, and I will be better with that tomorrow."

"The plan is to bounce back, attack the day, and hopefully go undefeated. We have another tough schedule ahead of us, but there were plenty of positives today. The biggest highlight was bowling our second-ever 300 Baker game—something that is never easy to do. This team has a lot of fight in them, and because of that, I'm expecting tomorrow to be a great day."
