Bowling Wins Four More on Day Two of Music City Classic

SMYRNA, Tenn. — The 11th-ranked Louisiana Tech bowling team shot the highest set of the tournament on the way to four more wins at the Music City Classic at the Smyrna Bowling Center on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (81-42) rolled a 4,970 during the individual portion of the tournament. LA Tech sits in 10th with a 9,682 total.

Louisiana Tech and Conference USA foe No. 6 Arkansas State battled down to the wire in the opening match. Kylee Trexler had a five-bagger in the middle of her game in the leadoff position for a 226, the high game on the pair. Rachel Ong followed with a 215 to give the Bulldogs a slim lead after the first two bowlers. Jenna Stretch would shoot a 195 and Abbie Leiendecker would do enough to provide Tech with a 970-963 win.

The overall score would dip a little in a 957-863 win over No. 17 McKendree, but LA Tech would be more consistent across the board. Ong finished high on the pair with a 212, followed by Stretch at 209. Leiendecker rolled a 204 and Allyson Sand had 192.

Louisiana Tech found the mark early in a dominating 1,138-872 win over No. 13 Wisconsin Whitewater, the highest set of the tournament. The lowest games by the Bulldogs were 199 by Stretch and Sand at 200. Paulina Avalos's longest string was a turkey, but she stayed clean for 226. A split in the eighth broke up what would have been a nine-bagger for Ong, but she still finished at 243. Leiendecker started with a seven-spare before a strike and another seven-spare. After that, the sophomore struck out for a 270, the highest game of the tournament.

The Bulldogs may not have scored as high over the next two games, but Tech came away undefeated on the day with a 976-841 win over Howard before the bye. Ong led the way with a 208, with Sand and Stretch right behind her at 204 and 202, respectively. Avalos led off with a 190.

Ong was the only Bulldog to hit even, but Tech bowled unopposed and shot 929. The lefthander had a 200, Avalos rolled 193 and Stretch finished with a 191.

Staying in the plus every game helped Ong into second with 1,078 for a 215.6 average. The other five bowlers who saw action average over 180. Stretch is inside the top 30 with a 996 (199.2), while Leiendecker had 970 (194.0), and Sand shot 951 (190.2) for the five games. Avalos rolled a 609 (203.0) for her three games, and Trexler had 366 in the other two games.
