ADDISON, Ill. — Louisiana Tech rolled a 12,965 for the 64 Baker games to finish second at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Sectionals at Stardust Bowl over the weekend. The 11th-ranked Bulldogs shot 6,316 on Sunday.
Â
Needing to finish fourth or better, LA Tech entered the day up 247 pins on that final spot. The 'Dogs did enough to keep them comfortable all day, finishing 541 ahead of fifth.
Â
Tech didn't throw more than one double a game in the opening set. However, they would stay mainly clean for a 760. The Bulldogs started with a 202 before shooting in the 180s in the final three. It looked like that trend would continue into the second set before they would strike out from the ninth frame for a 207. After that, they would finish with a 248 and 215 for 838.
Â
Louisiana Tech continued in the plus over the two sets before the break with 815 and 832. That would nearly give the Bulldogs a 500-pin cushion for the final 16 games.
Â
LA Tech shot 3,071 after lunch to safely qualify for the championships. The 'Dogs finished with sets of 741, 672, 823 and 836.

QUOTEABLES
Head Coach
Matt Nantais
Â
"We traveled to Chicago, Illinois, with two goals in mind: qualifying an individual bowler for the national championship and securing a spot in the ITC Championships for the fifth consecutive year. This weekend, we accomplished both."
Â
"Every member of the team contributed, and many gained valuable experience competing on a larger stage than they had all season. Only the top four teams from our sectional advanced, and while one tough set hurt our overall score, we still finished in second place—a huge achievement for such a young team."
Â
"Next week, we'll compete at Vanderbilt with the hope of doing enough to qualify for a NCAA regional championship and, ultimately, the national championships."
