Kylee defeats Maya Avilez of North Carolina A&T 707-683

LAS VEGAS — Sophomore Kylee Trexler became the first Louisiana Tech bowler to advance to the semifinals of the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championship after beating Maya Avilez in a match that would come down to the final game at the South Point Bowling Plaza on Wednesday.

The two bowlers came out striking to open the match. Avilez opened in the second but proceeded to strike on her next eight shots for a 257. Trexler took the early lead with a turkey to start, but a 10-pin and 3-pin in the fourth and sixth put her behind. The lefty would strike until the fill for a 256.

The pair started slow in game two, with neither getting a strike in the first three frames. Opens by Avilez in the first and third opened the door for Trexler. However, she would also open in the third but hold a 13-pin advantage in the game. Each bowler would throw six of their next eight strikes. This time Trexler would come away with a 223-222 win and tie the match heading into the final game.

It was another battle throughout game three. An open by Trexler in the third put her behind the eight ball early. Avilez spared in the third and fourth keep the door open. Trexler would connect on four straight to keep the battle going. Opens by Avilez in the eighth and ninth frames all but secured the win for Trexler.
