RUSTON – The Sun Belt Conference has announced that fourth-year Madison Pensom has been named Offensive Player of the Week after her historic performance against ULM Sunday afternoon in the first-ever match of the Radiance Technologies I-20 Showdown.Â
Pensom documented multiple career records and program firsts with her hat trick. Her three goals, five shots on goal, and six points are all the most in her four-season career. Additionally, her six total shots tie her career high, matching her performance against App State earlier this season. The three goals came just eight minutes apart. The Bulldogs have not had a player with a hat trick since 2019, when Amber Posthauer and Autumn Woodard each had one in a 15-0 victory against Alcorn State.Â
"I'm really happy for Maddy. She has worked tirelessly for the team and I'm glad her hard work has paid off. Not very often Garricks occur, and it was a perfect hat trick to top it off," head coach Matt Lodge said about Pensom's performance.Â
"To see her growth from a defender into a goal scorer has been fun to watch. I hope she finds the back of the net a lot more times this season. I'm proud of her work on the field this season."Â
The 3-2 victory over ULM marked the first Sun Belt win for the Bulldogs in program history and the first home win at LA Tech for head coach Matt Lodge.Â
Pensom and the Bulldogs return to action Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. against Troy in Alabama.Â
