Bulldogs Fall to Cowgirls to Close Bulldog Bash

Louisiana Tech volleyball fell to McNeese, 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-20), Saturday afternoon in the Thomas Assembly Center to close out the Bulldog Bash.
RUSTON – Louisiana Tech volleyball fell to McNeese, 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-20), Saturday afternoon in the Thomas Assembly Center to close out the Bulldog Bash.
Kylie Rodriguez and Gabrielle Hairston led the Bulldogs offensively with 10 kills apiece, while Rodriguez hit .400 on the afternoon. Tyra McKinnie added seven kills, while Emerson Traylor and Sydnee Carter combined for 30 assists.
The Bulldogs battled McNeese closely throughout the opening set, trading points with the Cowgirls late. Louisiana Tech held a 23-21 advantage before McNeese answered with three straight points. The Bulldogs fought off set point to tie the frame at 24-24, but McNeese scored the final two points to take the set, 26-24. The Bulldogs out-killed the Cowgirls 19-13 in the set.
The second set was as tightly contested as the first, with both teams at 17 late in the frame. The Bulldogs stayed within striking distance throughout the frame, but the Cowgirls pulled away late to take the set, 25-20. Rodriguez notched four kills on six attempts, adding in two digs.
Louisiana Tech again battled in the third set, keeping the score within reach throughout. McNeese eventually built a late lead and closed out the match with a 25-20 third-set victory.
Rodriguez led the Bulldogs with 10 kills on 20 attempts while adding three digs. G. Hairston also recorded 10 kills, while McKinnie finished with seven kills and two solo blocks.
Riley Steubing paced the defensive effort with 11 digs, her ninth game this season in double figures.

Bizarre match, every point was so close for both teams. I do not think we responded well to it, but that is part of growing as a team. It felt like our adjustments were a bit too conservative and we got off balance defensively. We will figure out how to respond and adjust to matches like these. Definitely positives to take away, but we have got to learn from this.
