2009 Fall Schedule
RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech head golf coach Jeff Parks announced his fall schedule on Monday, and it includes five tournaments highlighted by the LA Tech/Squire Creek Invitational held in October in Choudrant.
"We are going to face some very good schools this fall," Parks said. "If we perform well at each tournament, our ranking will improve, which will help us earn a regional berth. I am anxious for the season to start, and I am looking forward to seeing how we perform."
This fall, Parks will look for leadership from his sole senior, captain Matthew Harvey. Harvey, a three-year letterwinner from Georgetown, Texas, averaged 74.47 strokes in a team-high 32 tournaments last season. He tied for second place at the Squire Creek Invitational, his best finish of the year. For his efforts, he was given the "Top Dawg Award" by his teammates.
Harvey and the Bulldogs will open their fall slate with the Sam Hall Intercollegiate Invitational held at the Hattiesburg Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss. Sept. 14-15.
During the following week, Tech will visit Fort Worth, Texas to partake in the UTA/Waterchase Invitational Sept. 21-22 at the Waterchase Golf Course.
The Bulldogs will return home to host the LA Tech/Squire Creek Invitational scheduled for Oct. 5-6 at the Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant. Accompanying Louisiana Tech in the 15-team field are UALR, Jacksonville State, Middle Tennessee, North Carolina-Greensboro, Rice and Troy.
"It is a neat opportunity for us to host a tournament where teams from all around the country will come to play," Parks said. "We have a great opportunity to display our home course and perform well."
Tech will travel to the Colonial Country Club in Cordova, Tenn. to participate in the Memphis Intercollegiate Oct. 19-20. The Bulldogs will oppose 15 institutions, including Louisville, Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State, Southern Miss and Wisconsin.
They will then wrap up their schedule at the David Toms Intercollegiate set for Oct. 26-27 at the Country Club of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. Once again, the competition will be stiff as four SEC schools will be in attendance in the 14-team invitational: Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
