Baseball Set For Fall World Series

Oct. 28, 2010

Blue Team | White Team

RUSTON, La. - The Louisiana Tech baseball team will wrap up fall practices when the Bulldogs take part in the annual Fall World Series beginning Friday night at 6 p.m. at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.

"As coaches we are excited about the opportunity to evaluate the team for seven full games," said ninth-year head coach Wade Simoneaux. "They have to realize that one team could be down six games to none and that seventh game at-bat when the score is 10-0 can be as important as any bat. I want them to play the game, not the score, not the number of the games that they have already won or lost - I want them to play the game every time they get out there."

The six seniors on the 2011 squad held their annual draft this past Sunday night with Will Alvis, John Anderson and Joey Ford heading up the Tech White team and Josh Barrett, Clint Ewing and Mike LeBreton heading up the Tech Blue team.

The Fall World Series will feature seven nine-inning games with modified rules to allow for maximized participation to help with the evaluation of talent.

Louisiana Tech returns 23 letterwinners to a roster that is infused with a healthy crop of talented arms, four all-WAC performers and a bevy of veteran leadership headlined by 2010 ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-American third team honoree, Clint Ewing.

"It's nice to be a senior where we actually get to take over leadership and coaching roles for the Fall World Series," said Ewing. "At the same time, we want to make sure that everybody in the program gets a good chance to show what they are able to bring to our team to help us out in the upcoming spring season. That is ultimately what it is all about - to help us as players and coaches to decide who we need to make us a better ballclub."

Admission for the Fall World Series is free and open to all fans wishing to get a sneak preview of this season's team.

Louisiana Tech baseball will open the 2011 campaign on Feb. 18-20 as the Bulldogs host Southern Illinois, Nicholls State and Grambling State as part of the Louisiana Tech Baseball Classic.
