CHOUDRANT - Sophomore Sam Forgan shot a final round two-under-par 70 to finish in a tie for third place in the individual competition and lead Louisiana Tech to a second-place team finish at the 2011 Bulldog Classic at Squire Creek Country Club.

Forgan shot a three-round total of one-over-par 217 to finish tied for third, trailing only a pair of Middle Tennessee competitors in Hunter Green (213) and Jason Millard (216).

"Sam had an excellent tournament and finished tied for third," said Tech head coach Jeff Parks. "He was four shots off the lead. He had a terrible back nine yesterday when he shot a 42; that cost him the tournament. He came back strong and finished with a 70 today."

Middle Tennessee won the team competition - its third straight tournament title - running away from the field with a three-round team total of 868. The Bulldogs finished second with a 886 followed by Southeastern Louisiana (891), Missouri State (892), Jacksonville State (895), Texas State (895), South Alabama (899), Southern Miss (899), Rice (904), UALR (912), McNeese State (912) and Stephen F. Austin (925).

"I wanted to win it, and our team wanted to win it," Parks said. "That was our goal. Middle Tennessee is a very talented team that has won three straight events now. They are ranked in the Top 45 in the country. They provided a lot of competition for us.

"We just have to take care of little mistakes that cost us. We had some bright spots as we had some individuals play well. Hayden Stephens shot an opening round 72. Travis Wilmore shot a great round of golf yesterday with one of only two rounds under par in tough conditions. He gained some confidence and played well again today."

Wilmore shot a three-round total of 222 to finish tied for 15th while Jack Lempke (224) tied for 21st and Cody Santone (225) and Jonathan Bale (225) both tied for 26th. Clinton Shepard (226) tied for 30th while Stephens (229) tied for 38th.

"It took all five of our guys to finish in second and I'm proud of them," Parks said. "I'm disappointed we didn't win, but we did beat four Top 100 teams. We beat 10 teams and lost to just one. We will move forward from here."

The Bulldogs will compete next in the UALR First Tee Collegiate Classic March 28 and 29.
